ABOUT US
The church is located in the Village of Amsbry, Cambria County, one-half mile east of Route 53 and four miles north of Gallitzin. The church was formerly part of the Methodist Episcopal Church of the Central Pennsylvania Conference and was originally on the Allegheny Charge. Rev. Logan was the first regularly ordained minister sent by the Conference. The ground was broken early in 1892, and the cornerstone was laid on July 31. The cost of the building was approximately $1,000. Much help in its erection was given by Mr. & Mrs. W. W Amsbry. While the church was closed at times, regular Sunday services began in 1920. The original building still stands and is used to this day. Amsbry had student and part-time pastors until it was placed on the Cresson Charge in 1910. Since 1974, when Gallitzin was added, it has been a part of a three-point charge.
In 1968, the Methodist and Evangelical United Brethren denominations merged to form the United Methodist Church, and all three churches became members of the Western Pennsylvania Conference.
On August 2, 1992, the Amsbry United Methodist Church held its 100th anniversary. The congregation, former members, friends, and clergy filled the church's sanctuary to capacity for a service of worship and praise commemorating the 100th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone for the house of worship. It was also attended by the current district superintendent at that time and a retired district superintendent. Both participated in the service. The event concluded with a luncheon in a former schoolhouse building in the community.
